My Professional and Educational Background

Romulus Chelbegean, Ph.D.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

I started reading when I was a five-year old preacher’s son, back in Communist Romania. Since then, I have fostered a relentless fascination with the written word. Occasionally, I got academic credit for my reading, writing and my either creative or critical thinking. That’s how, over the years, I ended up amassing several pieces of paper that can be framed in my office, just in case somebody might ask what I am doing here.

After graduating a high school specializing its pupils into reading and writing music, I received an Associate Degree in Nursing and started working in a hospital, as a Registered Nurse. When I discovered that, when facing pain, suffering, and possible dying and death, people are prone to search for God, I went back to school and got my Bachelor in Theology. Studying old languages, like Hebrew, Greek and Latin, opened my appetite for modern vernaculars, so I went ahead and got both a Batchelor and a Master degree in Linguistics, followed by an additional Master in Religious Studies.

While Music and Poetry, Nursing, Theology and Philology provided great satisfaction to my soul, I soon realized that counseling and family therapy were, to my heart, even more rewarding than arts, medicine and Christian ministry taken together. Therefore, in my second youth, I proceeded to acquire my Master and Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have been both practicing and teaching this specialty for enough years to offer me both confidence and competence in working with individuals, couples or family systems, from all walks of life.

What should I learn next? Well, I am open to suggestions.
